Question:

Clear search history button grayed out

On my iPhone the Clear browsing history and website data button is grayed out. I’ve figured out that I need to get onto restrictions and change something on there. The only problem is that I have forgotten my restrictions passcode. I also learned that I could reset my iPhone but I also need the restrictions code for that as well. Are there any other paths I can take at this point or am I just going to have to leave it be?

You have two choices:

1. Leave it be.

2. Erase your iPhone, and then set it up as new in order to eliminate the Restrictions passcode: If you forgot the passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled – Apple Support

Did you set the restrictions passcode or did someone else do it?

If your history is synced to iCloud you may be able to reset it via another device – that is a kludge but it may work 🙂

You may have to keep thinking what your passcode is as it can’t be disabled, Apple have this info…

Use parental controls on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch – Apple Support

If you forget your Restrictions passcode, you need to erase your device, then set it up as a new device to remove the Restrictions passcode. Restoring your device using a backup won’t remove the Restrictions passcode.

See if others have better advice or search around for other ideas. If you can’t resolve it you’ll need to work out how to copy data off the device for safe keeping because a standard iOS backup will restore the passcode.
